This story was inspired by the Scandinavian folklore character called a hulder. This is a forest spirit who alerts of danger if an offering of food is left in the trunk of a tree. When a lost viking takes a young Saxon boy captive in an attempt to find his way home, the boy then enlists the aid of the hulder to escape but is captured by thugs. The viking, the boy, and the hulder must then help each other when the thugs threaten the life of the boy.

Hello! Caleb Wells here - I'm the writer of Outcast Forest and I am playing our viking, Erik. This film originated out of wanting to make a great movie in a genre the I have loved since I was a kid, with films like Legend, Conan the Barbarian, Lord of the Rings, and the 13th Warrior. Having some Swedish ancestry as well as becoming a Marine has also connected me to viking culture and the fantasy genre.

After having deployed to Iraq twice during my time as a Marine, I had the privilege to meet many Iraqi tribal leaders, policemen, and locals. That experience reaffirmed an understanding that humans from opposite walks of life, geography, and beliefs all want the same things fundamentally: safety, security, and the ability to exercise freedom in their lives. This is embedded into this story as a viking, a Saxon boy, and a forest spirit come together and help each other to survive.
